WHAT SHALL WE DO?
Memory Verse: "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do? (Acts 2:37).
Text: Acts 2:22-24, 32-38
Our text recalls the message of Peter to the children of Isreal on the day of Pentecost. The people had crucified Jesus, the Saviour of the world, in their ignorance. Though religious, they did not know His saving grace, purpose and power. Apostle Peter in his message explained the error and sin of the people, pointed them to Jesus the Saviour and invited them to salvation, and the people in quick submission and response, asked "Men and brethren, what shall we do?'
Why do some people live without taking Advantage of God's provision of Salvation?
Many people live with their loads of sin and go through life without looking to One who has made provision for the remission of sins. This may be for various reasons. Some are ignorant of the provision of all their sins. The devil makes some believe it is impossible to be saved. Others believe they are too bad to be saved. On the other hand, others feel they are morally okay, so they do not need to be saved. Some others are influenced by peer pressure. Some procrastinate or delay their salvation. Some are careless and indifferent; they feel because they are born into a particular religion, or denomination, there is no need to search for the truth.
The danger of neglecting the message of salvation, according to the following Bible passages.
i) Isaiah 3:11
ii) Romans 1:28
iii) Hebrews 9:27
iv) Psalm 9:17
It is dangerous for sinners to neglect, postpone or reject the salvation of their souls. A sinner who hears the gospel message often, without responding to it may soon find his heart hardened and unmoved in the future. Such people may die in sin and face eternal punishment in the lake of fire. These are sad truths which every careless, sinning people must ponder on today, and act on before it is too late.
What should be the response of people to the message of salvation?
The call to salvation is urgent, serious and important. The people in our text responded immediately. They did not give excuses, postpone or treat the call with levity. They knew with eternity. They gave their lives to Jesus, and about three thousand souls were instantly saved (Acts 2:41). You too can be numbered with the saved today if you will heed the call to salvation. Confess your sins, forsake them and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. "Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, Today if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness" (Hebrews 3:7-8).
I pray as you make the necessary step, the Lord will forgives you and liberate your life from the power of darkness to His marvelous light and establish your name in the book of life.
